Slides of the ePatient as a provider of Content

The whole issue of ICT empowered patients and caregivers as partners with professionals and researchers for transforming from 20th to 21st century healthcare, is very important for making it feasible, humane and economically sustainable. Perhaps this should be a specific topic for the next medicine 2.0 Like the use of YouTube, many patients and caregivers are starting to use freely available consumer web applications, like Ning, Google Apps, Yahoo Groups etc. At Global Alliance for Self Management Support (www.globalalliancesms.org) we are focused on the "expert patient" approach, developed within the self-management domain of chronic illness care. There are many sources of information which could give you a broader view of what is happening in this area, which could give you an idea of content for the next medicine 2.0 Here are some interesting sites to start with: http://www.e-patients.net/ www.pickereurope.org/ http://patientdave.blogspot.com/

Awesome,

I'm going to make sure it gets added to our site's calendar of events (MDgroove.com), and I've already added it to my Outlook so that I don't miss out next time.

Medicine 2.0 in Developing Countries

Cisco, great idea. We have been in several discussions with some non-profit where they were liking to use Medting as a platform to offer telemedicine, second opinion services.

Since Medting is free and allows to manage private cases, it can be use to increase the number of doctors that remotely could help to on Developing countries.

Just as an open idea for you....

Conference photos on Flickr

I just uploaded the last of the almost 1000 pictures...
Took some time because some manual red-eye corrections were required. All pictures are licensed under the creative commons attribution ns sa license, so feel free to use them in your blogs etc.
I would be grateful if people would help annotating them by posting the names of the speakers and people on the pictures as comments. While I know most of the faces, it is quite a task to tag all the images.

Response to the discussion post:

Should patientslikeme and asklepios connect?

One problem from the Canadian perspective (Asklepios). CMA will NEVER share Pt and MD access because of the patriot act (sorry we Canadians are a little paranoid). At the conceptual level, a multi-access level user network site would be fantastic, but the engineering and figuring out of privileges would be a tricky subject.

external generalizability, internal validity, and such

From the presentations this morning, i wonder if we are being over-critical of online work by emphasizing generalizability in this new line of reseach. There is always a tension between internal and external validity, and a continuum of efficacy...

I am sitting with Berci. Talk to you at the break

Comment to: Tom Houston

The US data on numbers of physicians is unlikely to be mirrored around the world - and the high levels may be much smaller for other health professions

Comment

The data from the CMA ePanel is neat, 26pct of MDs participate in a social network system, and 67pct would be willing. I wonder how representative.

Asklepios, the idea is:
Further conversations,
physicians only,
the virtual doctors lounge.

Comment

wow, 19 countries here at the conference.
